Graphic Design

Saltmedia led the graphic design and visual development of the Cando Indigenous Pavilion at CANSEC 2026, Canada’s largest defence and security tradeshow. The objective was to create a strong, cohesive visual presence that would proudly represent Indigenous businesses while providing a flexible design system that could evolve for future events. Working closely with the Cando team and production partners, we developed a complete suite of large-format graphics for kiosks, feature walls, and pull-up banners throughout the pavilion.

About

The creative direction centred on honouring Indigenous veterans and celebrating storytelling across First Nations, Inuit, and Métis perspectives. Historical imagery was carefully selected and paired with contemporary Indigenous design elements, including beadwork patterns, floral motifs, and Métis sash-inspired details. This approach created a visual narrative that reflected the continuity between past and present while celebrating Indigenous contributions and resilience.

Challenge

The booth design required working across multiple structures, each with precise and varying dimensions. Every panel, kiosk, and banner had its own specifications, which meant designs had to be carefully scaled, aligned, and adapted without losing visual consistency. At the same time, the pavilion needed to feel like one unified space. We had to thoughtfully bring together many individual design elements (imagery, patterns, messaging, and cultural references) into a cohesive experience that would read clearly from a distance and up close. Balancing technical accuracy with creative storytelling was a key part of the work.

Insight

Every graphic element was custom designed and produced at high resolution for large-scale print applications. Special attention was given to layout, panel sequencing, sightlines, and the physical constraints of the exhibition space to ensure a seamless visitor experience.

Results

Feedback reflected the impact of the work: “The Cando Pavilion was the talk of the show, and you had a significant role in that. It’s very much appreciated.” “Your beautiful designs helped create a space that was both powerful and inspiring, and one that we could all feel proud of. Miigwech!”
