Services Provided

Websites

Saltmedia designed and developed the new Keep Tobacco Sacred website, creating a responsive, accessible, and culturally respectful platform that showcases Indigenous teachings, youth engagement, and health promotion resources.

Graphic Design

Our team created custom visuals, including icons, that reflect Indigenous culture and storytelling traditions, ensuring visual consistency across the website and social media. At KTSC’s request, we also updated their logo to better reflect their audience.

Hosting

We provide secure and reliable web hosting to ensure the site remains fast, safe, stable, and accessible to users across Alberta and beyond.

Writing

Content was rewritten and adapted in collaboration with Elders and health professionals to ensure clarity, cultural sensitivity, and alignment with the project’s educational goals.

Marketing

A digital marketing strategy was created to promote the campaign, including targeted outreach and content distribution across multiple platforms.

Brand Development

Saltmedia helped guide the visual and narrative identity of the Keep Tobacco Sacred initiative, aligning it with Indigenous values and public health messaging, and providing a brand guide to maintain consistency.

Social Media

We created a campaign for Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), using the wealth of information available through KTSC. Saltmedia also expanded on KTSC’s existing social media guidelines, providing accessible advice for the Tobacco Warriors and KTSC’s future social media manager.

About

The Keep Tobacco Sacred Collaboration is a collaborative effort between the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta Health Services, the University of Alberta, and Indigenous communities to reconnect Indigenous youth with the cultural and spiritual significance of Sacred Tobacco. The project serves as a hub for education, storytelling, and community engagement. It features culturally sensitive content, Elder teachings, and resources to distinguish Sacred Tobacco from harmful commercial products.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to create a digital space that respectfully represents Indigenous knowledge and traditions, while also serving as a modern and accessible tool for health promotion. The site needed to resonate with diverse audiences—youth, Elders, Knowledge Teachers, and health professionals—while maintaining cultural integrity and technical excellence.

Insight

The success of KTSC depended on authenticity, accessibility, and visual storytelling. We prioritized inclusive design, mobile responsiveness, and multimedia integration to ensure the site would be engaging and educational for all users.

Results

We’re so honoured that KTSC now has a fully responsive, visually rich website at www.keeptobaccosacred.ca, featuring new branding, rewritten content, videos, and downloadable toolkits. They have a vibrant social media campaign at the ready for use across Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), amplifying the message with culturally resonant visuals and quotes. There has been increased community engagement, with measurable growth in followers and impressions across various platforms. KTSC also has an updated, scalable content strategy and visual identity that can evolve with future campaigns and events.
