What is Content Marketing?

September 19, 2016

While the term 'content is king' has been used to death as a way to describe content's importance online, it does have merit. If your aim is for your website to bring more quality leads and sales to your business, you've got to make content king for your brand, as well.

In a nutshell, one of the biggest factors in a successful digital marketing strategy, whether you're looking to rank well in Google, drive more traffic to your website, or earn the trust of prospective customers, is quality content. Not only does the quality of the content that's on your website matter, but you've also got to be sharing well written content that's going to add some sort of value, across as many online channels as possible.

Content Marketing for Small Businesses

Right now, businesses in every industry are popularizing their brands, improving their website rankings and demonstrating their expertise to existing and new customers by creating high quality content. The key, here, for any small business is that content marketing is affordable (especially if you're producing all your own content). Let's face it, it's hard for small businesses to compete when they don't have big marketing budgets like their larger competitors. But, producing content that people actually want to read or watch and sharing it in places like your website's blog, social media platforms and more can still have a very big effect. You've got expert knowledge in your field, so share it!

Provide Useful Information, Not a Sales Pitch

Where many businesses go wrong with content marketing is that they're constantly trying to pitch to their audience. People won't share a sales pitch with their friends or colleagues, but they will share quality content that contains valuable information.

Instead of always trying to make a sale, try offering useful how-to's or other articles and videos that demonstrate your knowledge and satisfy some sort of need for your audience. By doing so, you kill two birds with one stone; your readers will share your content (popularizing your brand - free of charge!), and it will help establish the trust and confidence your audience needs to become your customers.

Google Wants to See Quality Content

Need another reason to start sharing content on a regular basis? Google loves content, and in fact, websites with fresh, quality content are rewarded with great rankings in search results.
