When Big Lakes County contacted us, it was time for a new, user-friendly website. And the new website needed to condense content from two separate websites. We used a WordPress platform called Elementor to build this site. Once it was complete, we gave them all the training they needed to conduct updates and changes in-house.
We hosted the Big Lakes County website for quite a few years at our state-of-the-art data center located on Treaty 8 territory in Edmonton, Alberta. However, they now have an IT specialist who is taking this on.
Although we recommend hosting for all our clients, we also always work with the clients’ best interests. In this case, taking care of their own hosting fits their needs, and we were happy to accommodate.
Our design team choose the colours, font, and layout that were the best representation of the Big Lakes County community and brand. These details are important to the overall look and feel of the site, and they contribute to a cohesive user experience.
Big Lakes County is a municipal district that covers an area in North-Eastern Alberta from Swan Hills in the south to Gift Lake in the north and east to west, including Kinuso and High Prairie.
With a land area of almost 14,000 km2, communicating and connecting with residents and visitors is a crucial function of their website.
The area is described as a wilderness enthusiast’s paradise with parks, lakes, wetlands, trails, and year-round activities and natural attractions.
Our biggest challenge was building this website over the pandemic. Everyone was adjusting to new ways of working, and the team at Big Lakes weren’t always available. We needed to be supportive and understanding. So, building this website took longer than usual. And that’s ok!
Sometimes the choice is to do it fast, or to do it right. We allowed the time to get the website done right.
Big Lakes County is known for having a great website, and it’s led to other opportunities for them and for Saltmedia!
Now, Big Lakes County staff can cover all their website needs in-house. This suits their set-up and allows them to be completely responsive as needs come up.
Speaking of responsive, this website is fully responsive. That means that no matter what device someone uses to look them up, the site fits the screen, is easy to navigate, and loads quickly.
