March included International Women’s Day, which gave us a chance to think about the role of women entrepreneurs in Canada. At Saltmedia, this is especially meaningful because our company is majority-owned by an Indigenous woman. That perspective shapes how we work every day.
In Canada, the impact of women in business is significant. Women own about 20 percent of all small and medium-sized Canadian businesses and partner in a further 17 percent. Collectively, they generate approximately $100 billion in annual revenue and employ close to one million people.
Indigenous entrepreneurs are making their mark too. There are more than 50,000 Indigenous-owned businesses in Canada contributing close to $50 billion to the economy.

Every business is unique, but many share the same challenges. Getting funding can be tough. Finding strong networks and mentors isn’t always easy. Bias can affect how ideas are accepted and supported. These barriers can slow growth, even when there is plenty of potential.
Some challenges are more personal. Women often balance running a business with caregiving responsibilities. And similar to Indigenous entrepreneurs, also face issues with infrastructure or access to financing. These factors shape how businesses grow and matter to us.

At Saltmedia, we put people first. We take time to understand your business, your goals, and what matters to you. There’s no judgment. You don’t need to know the right terms or have everything figured out. We meet you where you are and work with you to build something that fits.
We offer website design, branding, marketing, and storytelling. Our solutions are clear and easy to understand. They reflect who you are and help you move forward with confidence.
We also work closely with or sibling company IT Horizons, because strong communication and strong technology go hand-in-hand. IT Horizons provides friendly, guided IT support and cybersecurity that helps reduce stress, improve reliability, and keep your business secure.
Together, we offer full-service support. From your brand and online presence to the systems behind the scenes, we help you build a business that works for you.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re starting from. What matters is feeling supported, understood, and set up for success. That’s why we’re here.

We live, work, and gather on traditional, unceded, and treaty territories of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples from coast to coast to coast. We’re committed to our collective responsibility to the original caretakers of this land and to listening, learning, and acting in ways that support reconciliation.
