Share the Love & Pay it Forward this Christmas

December 21, 2015

Every time I read about or have the pleasure of working with an organization or individuals, I can't help but get that warm and fuzzy, good all over feeling.

You know the one. It's that feeling that comes over you when you know someone has been helped in some way, no matter how seemingly insignificant it may be. No matter how busy we are in our day to day lives or how weighted down we can be by the grim news we see on the TV, supporting and showing love and compassion to people in our communities and around the world does just as much good for ourselves as it does those we help.

Paying it Forward - Not Back

There's a big difference between paying someone back for something they did for you and choosing to do something kind and/or generous for another person for no reason other than wanting to make someone feel good or to offer your help, also known as paying it forward. When someone chooses to volunteer for a local charity, pay for a stranger's groceries or top up the meter when someone's car is about to get ticketed, that's all paying it forward.

Just Google 'paying it forward' and you will find tons of heartwarming stories about people paying it forward all around the world. From acts of kindness as large as a complete stranger paying for a liver operation for a woman who otherwise couldn't afford it, to people carrying groceries for the elderly and giving compliments to people who appear to be having a bad day, there are so many truly inspiring stories of how these acts of kindness make a difference.

So, at Christmas, when we're preoccupied with to-do lists, holiday shopping and festivities, let's remember to take the time to do something nice for someone else. It doesn't have to be something big or even expensive. Paying for the coffee of the person in line behind you at the drive-thru, dropping off gently used clothing at your local shelter or simply smiling and saying hello to someone you pass on the street can do a world of good for someone who may be sick, struggling to make ends meet or simply having a bad day. 'Tis the season for so many things, but most of all, for sharing the love and spreading joy!

On behalf of everyone here at our Grande Prairie web design company, I wish you a very Merry Christmas, good health and happiness for the year ahead!
